Peter Grimm


Peter brings a rich blend of national security and commercial strategy consulting experience. Following service in the US Navy and as a government counter-terrorism analyst, he joined the strategy practice of Deloitte Consulting where he led teams delivering strategic planning and business transformation services for clients in both the Federal and commercial spaces. Peter is passionate about helping clients make smarter, faster decisions.

He holds a B.S. from the US Naval Academy and a M.S. from the National Intelligence University.

Todd Smith

Enterprise Account Executive

Todd is an experienced Enterprise Account Executive with a demonstrated history of working in the information technology and services industry.

A top performer in 2017 and 2018, his skills include negotiation, sales, customer relationship management (CRM), team building, and enterprise software-as-a-service. Prior to his professional sales career Todd was a golf professional in Maryland.

He holds a bachelor’s degree focused in Business Administration and Management from University of Maryland University College.

John A. Booth

VP, Marketing

John has more than 25 years of experience as an accomplished marketing and sales professional and is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the marketing function at Cipher. In collaboration with the sales and product teams, John will lead the growth of  Knowledge360® into new markets.

Prior to joining Cipher, John co-founded a national marketing agency providing companies with digital marketing and sales support, driving lead generation and increased sales for B2B and B2C clients.

Derek Heiss

Director, Consulting

Derek Heiss is the Director of Cipher’s Consulting Practice and is specialized in competitive intelligence and market strategy consulting for corporate clients. Prior to joining Cipher, Derek worked for Deloitte for seven years where he supported the Federal Strategy & Operations consulting practice in Washington, DC from 2009-14, and the M&A Corporate Finance group in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 2014-16. 

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from American University.

Jennifer Knauff

Director of Customer Success

As the Director of Customer Success, Jennifer leads the team responsible for client implementation and optimization of Cipher’s competitive intelligence software tool - Knowledge360. Jen and her team provide both on-boarding and ongoing support for hundreds of Knowledge360 customers. She also serves as an advocate for clients by prioritizing product features and enhancements, based on client feedback, with the product development team.

She is a Certified Scrum Product Owner, Certified ScrumMaster,  and Level 1 & 2 Certified Customer Success Manager and holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Management Information Systems from the  University of Baltimore.

Fred Hoffman

Director, Research

Following a 30-year career as an intelligence collector and information operations practitioner in the US Army and multiple civilian intelligence organizations, Fred now draws upon his broad experience in worldwide intelligence collection, information operations, corporate personnel and intellectual property protection to support both government and commercial clients.

He holds a B.A. from Lawrence University, a M.A. from the University of Michigan, an M.S. from the National Intelligence University, and a D.Sc. from Robert Morris University.
