Plot Configuration

In the original GE McKinsey matrix, business strength is plotted on the vertical axis; the industry attractiveness on the horizontal axis and the size of the circle represents the size of the industry with a shaded wedge representing the firm’s current share of the industry. The matrix is divided into nine boxes.

Note: In the time period following the introduction of the GE McKinsey matrix, the axes have been changed and more often than not the industry attractiveness constitutes the vertical axis while the business strengths are plotted along the horizontal axis.
